Dear QVPS Families,
As we head into the long weekend, we want to share some exciting updates that will take effect when we return to school on Tuesday, October 14th. These changes are designed to strengthen leadership opportunities for our junior and intermediate students and build an even stronger sense of community across all grades.
Recess & Student Leadership
All students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will now enjoy recess outside simultaneously, with designated areas for different age groups. To support this, we’re introducing our Kodiak Leaders—junior and intermediate students who will:
Help younger students on the swings
- Organize inclusive games
- Model positive communication
- Host dance parties
- Support during nutrition breaks
- Partner as reading buddies and mentors
Kodiak Leaders will be trained, visible in yellow safety vests, and ready to support a fun, safe recess experience for all.
Morning Supervision & Entry
Supervision begins at 8:30 AM, with a warning bell at 8:40 AM and entry at 8:45 AM.
We know that morning transitions can be challenging, especially for our younger students. If your child struggles with lining up, and you’re able to stay with them, we encourage you to do so until the 8:45 bell, when they can walk with their class into the school.
To support safety at the front of the school, cones are now in place to limit vehicle access. Please note that the front lot is reserved for the Boys and Girls Club bus and the school bus only. Parents should not use the front lot for parking or drop-offs.
Line-Up & Dismissal for Ms. Esdaile’s Class
To reduce crowding at the front of the school during morning entry:
- Ms. Esdaile’s Grade 3/4 class will now line up at the back of the school beside Mr. Bavie’s class
- This class will also be dismissed through the south (rear) doors with the junior and intermediate classes.
We’re excited about these changes and the positive impact they’ll have on our school community.
On behalf of our QVPS staff, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday!
Yours in Education,
Bill Thompson
