Muskoka Beechgrove Public School hosts the second annual Rainbow Day

On June 9, Muskoka Beechgrove Public School (MBPS) celebrated Pride Month through the school’s second annual Rainbow Day of Inclusion!

Run by the school’s Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) Club, the whole school was invited to sign up for blocks throughout the day to take part in a variety of activities that celebrated love and inclusion, including a bracelet and bake sale, a rainbow ribbon craft and colouring station, face painting, a fortune teller, balloon animals, sidewalk chalk and bubbles, and a variety of outdoor games to enjoy.

“The overall goal of the Rainbow Day of Inclusion is to celebrate our differences and what makes us all unique,” said MBPS Core French teacher and GSA educator lead, Naz Fulton. “We hope to make the school a more welcoming, positive, and empathetic space.”

When students were asked what Rainbow Day meant to them, they responded with:

“Rainbow day is about teaching people to support others,” said Grade 6 student, Ava Poulsen.

“It teaches people that everybody needs to be loved and accepted,” said Grade 6 student, Finnley Graham.

Muskoka Pride provided some funding for activities throughout the day.
