Letter to families: Reorganization update and upcoming events

Dear parents and guardians,

As I mentioned in my September 11th letter, Queen Victoria Public School has seen an increase in enrolment this fall, which has led to larger class sizes.

In response, the TLDSB has provided us with additional teaching staff. This allows us to create a new classroom, offering more personalized attention and improving the learning experience for all students.

Our staff has worked together to adjust class sizes across all grades, following Ministry of Education guidelines. Around 70 students will be moved to new classrooms to ensure a better learning environment for everyone.

Our two largest classrooms are the JK/SK class and our grade 6/7 class. The JK/SK class will be reduced from 33 to 26 students, with 7 SK students moving to the SK/1 class. The grade 6/7 class has been split into a grade 7 class and a grade 5/6 class, reducing the number of students in grade 7 to 24 and in grade 5/6 to 25.

As a result, some students in all other grades will shift classes. If your child in grades SK-5 will be affected by these changes, I will contact you by phone early next week. Please help explain to your child that moving to a new classroom doesn’t mean they’re changing grades, just a room and possibly a teacher.

Here is our updated homeroom teacher list:

  • JK/SK: Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Tomilson (DECE)
  • SK/1: Mrs. Morrison
  • 1/2: Mrs. Lautenschlager
  • 2/3: Mrs. Arnold
  • 3/4: Ms. Esdaile
  • 4/5: Mr. Bavie
  • 5/6: Mr. Arnold
  • 7: To be hired early next week with the new teacher starting on Sept 26th

All students in QVPS will be in their new classrooms on Thursday, September 26th.

Our staff has worked hard to make these arrangements and ensure that all students continue to receive an exceptional education. Thank you for your understanding and support as we go through this reorganization, working to create the best learning environment for our students and community.

Please note the following exciting upcoming events at QVPS:
