Welcome Back, Kodiak Families – Important Info for a Great Start!
Good afternoon Kodiak Families,
I hope you had a fun and restful summer!
QVPS is buzzing with energy as our dedicated staff prepare for an exciting school year. It is
truly an honour to be returning as the Principal of QVPS for my fifth year.
What’s New at QVPS:
- Major heating system upgrades
- Fresh paint throughout the building
- JK–Grade 8 all under one roof – a first in QVPS history!
- New class and grade configurations
- Instrumental music for intermediate students
- Dedicated STEAM education for primary students
- Continued partnership with Ampere Makerspace
Class Lists & Teacher Introductions
As we continue welcoming new students, class lists are being finalized. Teachers will email families on Tuesday, September 2 (PA Day) to introduce themselves and share important details. In the meantime, you can view our staff list on the website under: Menu > Our School > Staff Directory.
Permission Click – Action Required
Watch your inbox (and junk mail) for an email with “Permission Click” in the subject heading. We kindly request that all families complete the necessary forms to ensure we have your child’s most up-to-date medical, contact, privacy, Safe Arrival, and activity permission information. Timely completion helps us keep your child safe and supported.
Our Balanced Day & The Importance of Attendance
QVPS follows a balanced day schedule with three 100-minute learning blocks, separated by two 40-minute nutrition/recess breaks.
Notable times in our Schedule:
- 8:30 AM – Outdoor supervision begins. For safety, only staff and students are
permitted on the playground. - 8:40 AM – First bell: Students prepare to enter the building.
- 8:45 AM – Students enter the school
- 3:05 PM – Dismissal (JK/SK classes may begin dismissal at 2:50 PM)
Consistent and on-time attendance is essential for your child’s success.
Arriving late—even by a few minutes—interrupts the focus and routine of all students and is very disruptive to your student’s learning. A strong start to each day helps your child stay confident, prepared and engaged.
Safe Arrival – Let Us Know If Your Child Will Be Away
Call our Safe Arrival line anytime at 705-324-3162 to report an absence. If we don’t hear from you and your child is absent, we will begin contacting you and your emergency contacts. Please help us save valuable time by calling in absences—thank you!
Volunteers Needed!
We’d love your support this year! From reading with students to helping with snacks and
hot lunches, volunteers make a big difference. If you’re interested, contact us!
Key Dates:
- First Day for SK–Grade 8: Wednesday, September 3
- JK Students: Staggered start from September 3 to 5
Helpful Reminders:
- Choose shoes that your child can fasten independently.
- Pack a spare change of clothes in your child’s backpack.
- Label everything—jackets, containers, shoes, etc.
- No toys at school unless permitted by the teacher for outdoor play
- All cellphones must be off and away during the school day.
- Educators will not use cell phones or Seesaw during teaching hours—please contact the office for urgent matters or leave a message for the teacher.
- Students in our 4/5, 5/6, 6/7, and 8 classes will use agendas. Please send $7 to purchase one. Students in our JK/SK, SK/1, 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4 classrooms will use the Seesaw app.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic year ahead.
Thank you for your support as we work together to help your child grow and thrive.
Go Kodiaks!
Yours in education,
Bill Thompson – Principal
