IEWSS student receives CTMA High School Award

On June 14, I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS) Grade 12 student, Ivey Stockdale, was presented with the Canadian Tooling and Machining Association (CTMA) High School Award from executive director, Robert Cattle.

The award is presented to 15 secondary school students across the province who exemplify the qualities that CTMA believes will help them move forward with a career within the industry, including a high proficiency in metalworking skills, a positive attitude, and having plans to pursue a career in one of the many precision metalworking trades.

Stockdale was nominated by her Manufacturing Technology teacher, Ryan Rawlins, as he felt she demonstrated these attributes and more. Stockdale was a valued member of the school’s rookie FIRST Robotics Team, serving as safety captain and co-captain, helping the team win both the Rookie All-Star and Rookie Inspiration Awards. She also was awarded one of two Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) Accelerated Level 1 placements, where she chose TS Manufacturing, and will start as an apprentice millwright.

“I am truly grateful to be recognized for what I have achieved. It has not been easy at times and it was a big change for me, especially going from the International Baccalaureate (IB)/French Immersion program, to jumping mid-high school journey into strictly trade focused. No path is easy. There’s always bumps in the road, but I am so glad I took the path of industrial mechanic millwright,” said Stockdale. “Being recognized and receiving this award fills me with gratitude and is very rewarding to know my hard work is not going unnoticed. I encourage young men and women to work hard for their dreams no matter what it is and know your hard work is not going unseen. CTMA is a fabulous program and I am thrilled to see them helping us young members of the community thrive in the trades!”

Through the High School Award, Stockdale received a cheque for $1,000 and a trophy.

Congratulations, Stockdale, and good luck in your future!
