April 2nd 2025
Dear QVPS Kodiak Community,
I hope this message finds you safe and coping as well as possible during these challenging times. The recent ice storm has certainly posed difficulties for many of us, and I want to take a moment to recognize the impact these weather conditions have had on each household. Whether you are facing power outages, property damage, or other hardships, please know that our thoughts are with you. We understand how tough these circumstances can be and are here to provide support in any way we can.
In addition to the personal challenges many of you are facing, I wanted to inform you that our schoolyard has sustained significant damage from falling tree branches and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. We strongly advise against using the yard, especially the southeast exit, as the area remains unsafe. Our maintenance team is actively working to address the damage, and we will provide further updates as needed.
As we continue to navigate these challenges, I want to reassure you that our school staff regularly communicates with one another. We understand the importance of maintaining stability and supporting our students during this time. For families who can safely send their children to school, we are dedicated to ensuring that QVPS remains a safe, warm, and welcoming environment. We have heating, electricity, and internet access, and we are prepared to continue offering in-person learning from staff who can attend.
All trips to the Ampere Makerspace on Thursday, April 3rd, will be postponed. We will reschedule those trips and notify families when a new date has been determined. I’d like to emphasize the importance of prioritizing safety when traveling to school. Each family should carefully examine the walking route to school and ensure it’s clear of any debris or potential hazards that could affect walkways, sidewalks, or roads.
We plan to re-open our school tomorrow, Thursday, April 3rd. If the situation changes, we will update our School Facebook account and send a SchoolMessenger email and text by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.
I am truly proud to be part of the Kodiak community that continually shows strength and resilience in the face of challenges. Together, we will continue to support one another and work through these difficult circumstances.
Yours in education,
Bill Thompson, Principal
