Dear TLDSB staff and families,
The 2022-2023 school year has come to an end and on behalf of the trustees and senior team I would like to express our sincerest gratitude to students, staff, families, and our community partners for your dedication to, and support of, student learning and well-being. It has been an incredible year full of meaningful learning and engagement opportunities for staff and students alike. Here are a few highlights from the past school year:
- We broadened our mental health support model to foster wellness, self-regulation, and social emotional learning strategies for all students, and all schools are benefitting from the support of a mental health counsellor.
- Over 1,000 Grade 6 students participated in the outdoor education opportunity at Camp Muskoka throughout the year, where they enjoyed outdoor and physical education opportunities, and participated in activities related to science, geography, and the arts.
- We hosted our first annual Educational Pow Wow and Drum Social in partnership with local First Nations partners at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School in June.
- Students engaged in extracurricular opportunities, participated in music and drama festivals, competed at the local, regional, provincial, and national levels in various activities and sports, honed their skills in the trades, successfully completed cooperative education placements, and enjoyed countless class trips.
- We have offered numerous professional development sessions to staff to improve instructional leadership, and we have been working on targeted strategies in literacy and numeracy to support student understanding and achievement.
- In support of our Strategic Plan and Equity Plan goals related to equity, belonging, and fostering safe learning environments for all, we sought input from both students and staff through our Director’s Student Voice Summits and Educator Forums that were hosted throughout the year. The feedback we received in these sessions, coupled with the data gained from our student census and the school climate surveys, will assist us to continue our commitment to improving student learning and well-being.
Great things are happening in Trillium Lakelands District School Board, and thanks to the partnerships and collaboration between students, staff, families, and the community we have seen incredible growth, accomplishments, and learning across the system during the past school year.
We wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy summer break and look forward to continuing to work and learn together in September 2023.
