Dear QVPS Parents and Guardians,
The holiday season is upon us, and we’re excited to share all the wonderful events happening at QVPS this December!
Fire alarm – Friday, November 29th
The fire alarm sounded at QVPS on Friday morning. Our staff and students evacuated quickly and safely and were outside for 15 – 20 minutes while we waited for the Fire Department. It was determined that the cause of the alarm was a faulty part, which was replaced by 12:30 PM. As it was cold outside, we stayed inside during first recess for a warm-up dance party in the gym! We are very proud of our student’s Kodiak Grit.
Annual Christmas Market – December 17th & 18th
Our staff have been working tirelessly, including evenings and weekends, to prepare for this year’s Annual Christmas Market. This special event allows all students to shop for gently used and donated items during the school day on December 17th and 18th. The goal is to help students experience the joy of giving this holiday season, selecting thoughtful gifts for their loved ones while learning the value of generosity. We are incredibly proud of the time and care our team has invested to make this event truly magical for our students.
Winter Dance – December 6th
On Friday, December 6th, our School Council is hosting a Winter Dance for students of all ages during the school day! Each age division will have a dance with a hot chocolate station, a photo area, and plenty of balloons to make the event extra festive. This will surely be a highlight of the month and a wonderful way for students to celebrate together in the spirit of the season. Are you interested in helping with initiatives like this? Contact our office for details!
Candle Fundraiser wrap-up
Thank you to everyone who sponsored our Candle Fundraiser. We raised about $700 for School Council initiatives, such as year-end field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
Seasonal Spirit Days
Get ready for a blast of festive spirit with our seasonal spirit days on December 6th, 13th and 16th – 19th. Themes will be announced soon!
Spelling Bee Squad
Does your grade 1-7 student love spelling? Mrs. Thurston is leading a spelling squad to prepare for our QVPS spelling bee contest in the new year. Encourage your students to sign up!
Spring Performance
We understand many families are eager to see a Christmas concert return to our holiday schedule. However, with the time and effort needed to prepare for the Christmas Market and the continued challenges of seasonal illnesses, staff have decided to hold a Spring performance for the second consecutive year. This decision ensures we can plan a high-quality event with full student participation. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to celebrating with you in the Spring!
Upcoming Lunch Days and Inclement Weather Days
Based on the feedback from our School Council, we are excited to announce that we will have lunches to purchase from Firehouse Subs on Friday, December 6th and Boston Pizza Chicken Fingers on Monday, December 9th. The links to purchase these lunch options should be available on SchoolCashOnline later today.
If TLDSB has determined that the City of Kawartha Lakes will have an inclement weather day on the same day as a lunch day, we will continue with our lunch program. Families who keep their students home will have their lunch refrigerated for pick up the next day. This is just a reminder that our School remains open and ready for learning on all inclement weather days.
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to create meaningful and joyful experiences for our students.
Yours in education,Bill Thompson – Principal
