Welcome to the Grade 5 Class!
The Grade 5 class welcome's 28 students and 3 staff members: Ms. Hein, Mr. Fleming, and Miss. Michelle. Mr. Fleming and Miss. Michelle share a half time position in the classroom.
Gym days are Days 1, 3, and 5. Please come with proper indoor shoes and appropriate clothing. Some gym classes will take place outside, so students need to be prepared for that, as well. In Health, we are learning about Healthy Eating, so nutritional snacks and lunches are an effective form of teaching. The students are beginning a unit on in Social Studies on Ancient Civilizations, which should prove to be very interesting! The students will have access to the Library for signing out books on Day 4. Goal Setting is our Character Education trait of the month. The student's agenda has some valuable information about this trait.
I am sure many of you have the question, "What about homework?" I understand that sometimes homework can conflict with schedules outside of school. So, generally the students will have homework if an assignment is not completed during the allotted time, if practice is needed or during project activities. Information will be put in the agenda regarding homework on an individual basis, as needed. If you would like to help, it would be beneficial for your child to read every night and practice math facts. This will help your child be successful throughout this year.
Any concerns you might have about your child's studies or behaviour please feel free to contact me at the school. The best time is after school hours. The school telephone number is 324-3162. Also, the agenda is a good source for communication. Reminder - 'Meet the Teacher' night is set for September 17. I hope to see you all there.
Yours in learning,
Ms. Shannon Hein
